FabNewport is 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to inspire the maker in all of us. Our vision is all students will have the skills, confidence and commitment to positively impact their communities and make their lives.

We started in 2013 as a maker space/ fab lab in Newport and now serve both the Providence and Newport areas with an emphasis on urban middle and high school-aged youth. Our spaces in schools, libraries and community centers emphasize collaboration, distributed teaching and learning, and choice.

We offer:

  • Classes and workshops for students during the school day
    • We support All Saints Academy in Middletown
    • We run two programs, Wearables and Design|Make|Manufacture at the Met School in Providence
    • We work with 360 High School in Providence
  • After school programs for middle & high school students
    • In our Newport lab in conjunction with Newport Public Schools
    • Open lab on Fridays
  • Evening workshops for older students & adults
  • Facility rentals for local companies and entrepreneurs
    • Contact John Spillane (john@fabnepwort.org) to make arrangement

We work with ‘students’, both young and old, over extended periods of time teaching technical, artistic, and design skills while cultivating the personal attributes required for success in life. Grit, self control, empathy, problem solving, and resilience are attributes that will foster success in any pursuit. Users of Fab Newport have access to a computer lab, powerful design and manufacturing software, a 3D printer, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, electronic components, hand and power tools, and a team of people who are there to help. If you have any questions feel free to email steve@fabnewport.org.
